  • Applications will be collected and held until the next scheduled review period.
  • During this phase, applications will be evaluated for minimum qualifications, completeness, and overall suitability.

Before You Apply

Before starting your application, please review the required documentation checklist below.
These items may be needed during the application and interview process.

Please note you will need to complete every section of the application in full to successfully complete the application.
Copies of these required documents will be needed in person if selected for interview. These will not be returned.

  • Have a doctor complete and sign the General Medical Statement Form.

  • Complete, sign, and date the VFIS Beneficiary Designation form.

  • A copy of your most current driver’s license.
  • A copy of your social security card.
  • A signed and dated Bloodborne Pathogens form.

  • A signed and dated Hepatitis Vaccination form.
    Download form
  • Copies of any fire and EMS certificates you currently hold.
  • If you have not resided in NC for the past 5 consecutive years, then you must be fingerprinted at the Durham County Sheriff's Office per state law.
    Information will be sent to you upon completing the application.

Once you have submitted all of the above requirements, you will have completed the application process. A committee will then review your application packet and notify you of your membership status. While completing these requirements, you may begin attending training drills at the department on Mondays at 7:00 PM to observe.
