Bahama Fire Department is proud to support students in our community through scholarship opportunities created in memory of individuals who made a lasting impact on Bahama and the fire department.
These scholarships are available to eligible applicants pursuing college or technical school education. Please review the scholarship descriptions, eligibility criteria, and required application materials below.
Community Legacy Scholarship
Dr. Elizabeth Marie Roberts Scholarship
The Dr. Elizabeth Marie Roberts Scholarship was created in memory of Dr. Elizabeth Marie Roberts, a lifelong resident of Bahama who was deeply involved in her community. Dr. Roberts served for 18 years as Treasurer and Secretary of Bahama Fire, Rescue and EMS Company and helped the department establish its current Station 1 headquarters on Bahama Road.
This scholarship honors her many contributions to the Bahama community.
Line of Duty Memorial Scholarship
Ricky Dorsey Scholarship
The Ricky Dorsey Scholarship was created in memory of Ricky Dorsey, a 19-year-old firefighter who lost his life in the line of duty on September 6, 1996, during Hurricane Fran.
The scholarship fund was started by Bahama Fire, Rescue and EMS Company using donations received from the community and continues to be supported each year through donations from the Annual Fire Supper.
Scholarship Details
Both scholarships are in the amount of $1,000 and may be used for tuition and/or books at a college or technical school. Scholarship checks will be made out to the recipient and the school where the recipient will be attending.
Eligibility Criteria
- The scholarship is open to high school seniors, college students, and technical school attendees. Priority will be given to high school seniors.
- The applicant’s grade point average must be 2.5 or higher.
- The applicant must be active in community service.
- The applicant must have already been accepted or applied for admission to a university or technical school.
- The applicant must be a resident of the Bahama Fire District.
How to Apply
To apply for a scholarship, please complete the required application materials and submit them by the listed deadline. Make sure all forms are complete before mailing your application packet.
Application Procedure
- Complete the scholarship application form.
- Complete a one-page essay about yourself, your aspirations, and your dreams.
- List your extracurricular activities and community service involvement.
- Submit a completed teacher evaluation form.
